But Deliver Us from Evil

I hope you continue to wake up each morning with the Lord's Prayer on your mind and in your heart, and saying it before you get out of bed. Let's now examine this teachable moment in Matthew 6:13b.
“ But deliver us from evil.”
Matthew 6:13b
Jesus concludes this part of the Lord’s prayer with a strong plea for help and protection. It reminds us that we are engaged in a spiritual fight, and we need God’s safeguarding not only from temptation but also from the evil one himself.
The enemy aims to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but our God is a powerful Deliverer.
To pray “deliver us from evil” is to recognize that forces beyond our sight are at work. It’s not driven by fear; it’s rooted in faith. We don’t shrink back in dread; we stand confidently knowing that the One in us is greater than the one in the world (1 John 4:4).
This prayer also increases our awareness. It sharpens our ability to discern and helps us recognize when something isn’t from God.
Evil doesn’t always appear as a clear threat. Sometimes it takes the form of a compromise, a distraction, or a delay. But with God’s help, we can stay alert and walk in victory.
Friends, we are not alone in this fight. God goes before us, surrounds us, and equips us with His Word, His Spirit, and His armor (Ephesians 6:10-18). We are not powerless, for the Lord is our Shield and our Defender.
Life Application:
Today, I pray you hold onto God as your Deliverer. I encourage you to declare His truth over your life. May you rise in the strength of the Lord and stand firm in His promises, knowing He is your Shield and Stronghold.
Call to Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Deliver me from every plan of the enemy. Lord Jesus, I ask that You guard my heart, protect my mind, and lead me in truth.
Lord Jesus, I thank You that I am not fighting alone. You are my Defender, and I trust You to carry me through every trial.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
Next week we will examine Matthew 6:13c, the Doxology of the Lord’s Prayer.
