If You Forgive Others

September 19, 2025
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Matthew 6:14

This verse highlights one of the most difficult and freeing truths in Scripture: forgiveness is not optional; it’s crucial. Jesus underscores that accepting forgiveness from God is closely tied to offering forgiveness to others.

Forgiveness does not mean saying what someone did was okay. It isn’t about forgetting or downplaying the hurt. Instead, forgiveness is a choice to let go of the offense, trusting God’s justice and mercy with the pain. When we forgive, we free ourselves from bitterness that holds us back and open our hearts to God's healing grace.

Why is forgiveness so essential? Because those who are forgiven are called to forgive others.

We who have received mercy are now channels of that same mercy. Clinging to resentment while asking God for grace puts us at odds spiritually. Jesus clearly states: a heart that holds onto offense cannot fully embrace the beauty of God's forgiveness.

This verse calls us to live with a posture of grace. When we forgive, we reflect the heart of the Father. We demonstrate a kingdom mindset that values peace, restoration, and love over revenge or control.

Life Application:

Is there someone you need to forgive today? Don’t wait. Release them to God, and embrace the full joy of your Father’s forgiveness in return.

Call to Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the grace You have poured into my life. Help me to forgive as You have forgiven me. I release all offenses and choose freedom over bitterness. Let Your love flow through me today.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
