A Prayer for America and Soccer Fans Worldwide

July 24, 2026

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.”
Psalm 33:12

As I entered the airport in New Orleans to fly out to lead prayer meetings, I saw about 100 soccer fans from Scotland who had come to Louisiana to experience some of the sights and sounds before heading to Miami for a soccer match between Scotland and Brazil on Wednesday. I had been hearing about the many soccer fans coming from around the world, and I was thrilled to see them in New Orleans as tourists, since Louisiana had not hosted matches.

A few weeks ago, I led a prayer call focused on the many evangelistic opportunities surrounding the World Cup. Today, I invite you to join me in pausing to offer a heartfelt prayer for America and for all the passionate soccer fans gathered from every corner of the globe. Whether cheering in stadiums, watching from home, or playing on local fields, these moments unite us in joy, hope, and community.

Heavenly Father,

We thank you that America has the opportunity to host many World Cup matches alongside Mexico and Canada, and that it will host the final match.

Lord Jesus, we thank you for Canada and Mexico, and we pray your blessings upon them. Lord, we ask for your abundant blessings on America, a land rich in diversity and opportunity.

Lord Jesus, may your spirit guide its leaders with wisdom, inspire its people with love and kindness, and bind its communities in peace. Lord, we ask that you grant unity where there is division and hope where there is despair.

Lord Jesus, we also pray for the millions of soccer fans worldwide. In this beautiful game, You have woven threads of connection that span cultures, languages, and borders. May soccer remain a symbol of teamwork, perseverance, and respect. Help fans to cheer with joy and humility, embracing the spirit of sportsmanship and fellowship.

Lord, as the Psalmist declares, nations thrive when they acknowledge You. Lord Jesus, may we all look to You as our ultimate source of strength and blessing, not only in sports but also in life’s challenges and celebrations.

In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

As we prepare to pray this week, ask God for opportunities to share His Story with others. What a joy and opportunity we have in America. I ask God’s blessing to rest upon every fan, every player, and every nation, drawing us closer together through the universal language of the beautiful game.
