Praying for Our Children This Summer

As summer approaches, many children have the wonderful opportunity to attend Vacation Bible Schools, church camps, and retreats. These experiences can deeply shape their faith, build friendships, and deepen their understanding of God’s love. Let’s take time to pray earnestly for our children as they embark on these spiritual journeys.
Scripture Focus:
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105
“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 19:14
Summer camps and Vacation Bible Schools are more than just fun and games. They are sacred moments when seeds of faith are planted and nurtured. These settings provide a safe place for children to encounter God’s Word in fresh ways, to find answers to their questions about faith, and to experience the joy of Christian fellowship.
As intercessors, caregivers, church leaders, and believers, we have both the responsibility and the blessing to pray for these children. We pray that each child would be protected, open-hearted, and receptive to God’s voice. We pray that the Holy Spirit would move powerfully in every VBS lesson, campfire sermon, and retreat worship time. May each child leave with a heart set aflame for Christ, strong in their identity as God’s beloved.
Prayer for Children This Summer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of children and the joy they bring to our lives.
As summer begins, we lift up every child attending Vacation Bible School, church camps, and retreats. We ask that You protect them physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Guard their hearts and minds from distractions and fear. Open their ears to hear Your Word clearly and their hearts to receive Your truth with joy.
Cause Your Holy Spirit to work powerfully in these summer gatherings. May the lessons taught and the friendships formed draw them closer to You. Help them grow in wisdom, courage, and faith as they learn more about Your love.
We pray that they return home encouraged, equipped, and eager to share their faith with others. May their lives be a light that reflects Your glory throughout the year.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
In closing, as you pray, you may also consider supporting and encouraging children and parents from your church by giving them a Bible, journaling supplies, or simple prayer reminders. Encourage them regularly and ask what they are learning. Your prayers and support are vital to their spiritual growth!
