Rooted and Empowered in Prayer
“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven…”
Colossians 1:3-5
As intercessors, we stand in the gap, lifting others’ needs to God. Paul’s opening words in Colossians 1:1-12 offer a profound example and challenge for our prayer lives. Notice how Paul begins by giving thanks for the Colossian believers, acknowledging their faith, love, and hope, and then prays specifically for their growth in wisdom, strength, and endurance.
The challenge is clear: Intercessors’ prayers must be both thankful and purposeful. Like Paul, before you ask, thank God for what He is already doing. Celebrate the faith and love in those you pray for. This attitude aligns your heart with God’s will and activates His power in their lives.
Next, pray for spiritual wisdom and understanding. Intercession is not just about bringing requests but about praying them in accordance with God’s will. Ask God to fully reveal His will so your prayers build up the church and encourage believers to live lives worthy of Him.
Lastly, pray boldly for strength and endurance. Spiritual battles are real, and believers need God’s power to persevere with patience and joy. As intercessors, your prayers fuel their resilience.
Friends, your call is to become spiritual warriors who pray not only for needs but also for transformation, rootedness, and growth in Christ. I encourage you to take this challenge: in every prayer, blend thanksgiving, wisdom, and empowerment. Stand firm as a passionate intercessor—your prayers shape destinies and strengthen the body of Christ!
