Blessed are those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

The Beatitudes list the attributes of those who are children of the Kingdom of Heaven (Matt. 5:11-12). They call us to seek humility, mercy, and righteousness, challenging us to shift our focus from worldly values to those of God.
This week, we examine Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Matthew 5:6
Hunger and thirst are signs that emphasize a deep longing. Jesus calls us to hunger for righteousness, promising that we will be satisfied.
As we yearn for a world where justice, truth, and holiness are the norm, Matthew 5:6 presents a challenge for us to recognize what we truly hunger for in life. Are we longing for God's heart, or are we distracted by the desires of the world?
When we hunger and thirst for righteousness, we are aligning our hearts with God and His will for our lives. The Lord is a promise keeper, and His promise here is that we will find satisfaction in Christ here on earth and throughout eternity.
I encourage you to listen to a couple of old gospel hymns and be encouraged by the words to the songs. The first song is Mansion Over The Hilltop and the other is For Those Tears I Died.
Call to intercession:
- Pray for yourself to have a renewed hunger for righteousness.
- Pray for your community, family, friends, and neighbors to develop a thirst for the Lord and His righteousness.
- Ask God to instill a passion for justice and truth in the hearts of those in your circle of influence and the broader community.
- As you pray, ask the Lord to reveal how you can pursue righteousness in your daily life and guide others to do the same.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for calling us to hunger and thirst for righteousness.
Lord, we confess that we cannot do this on our own. So, Lord Jesus, please turn our hearts to you so that we may long for you all day.
As you work, may we find ourselves satisfied in and with you as the Lord of our lives.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
